Snap-on Recognized as an E-Business Leader by InformationWeek

KENOSHA, Wis. - January 10, 2000 - Snap-on Incorporated (NYSE: SNA), a global leader in tools, diagnostics and equipment, was named to InformationWeek’s first-ever E-Business 100 as an innovative leader in the use of Internet technologies for e-commerce initiatives.

Criteria for judging was based on each company’s ability to execute its vision and meet objectives, level of business and technology integration, and overall innovation in e-business. Companies were judged on their ability to link customers, suppliers, business partners and employees via the Internet; use of Web sites to handle sales transactions and provide customer service; use of intranets and enterprise data portals to link employees and give them more access to data; and use of extranets to improve information flow to and from business partners.

Among other initiatives, Snap-on was recognized for its electronic interface of transactions with franchised dealers, as well as a new online ordering system aimed at large industrial accounts. Dealers began placing orders electronically with Snap-on in 1992. Today, more than 95 percent of dealer orders are received online.
